How good is a stock Chevy Tahoe for off roading?
16.February, 2010
My cousin just brought a brand new Chevy Tahoe and he wants to take through in the trails in the woods in my town. Is a Chevy Tahoe any good for off roading or do we have to get it lifted?
Depends on your off roading. Its not going to do anything hardcore but its more than capable of handling going down 2 tracks and stuff like that.
How do you replace battery cables and connectors on Chevy Camaro?
12.February, 2010
I have a 98′ Chevy Camaro 3.8L V6 Coupe and I need to replace the battery cables and connectors because my current ones are corroded by battery acid. Yet, I have no idea how to do that. I have very little experience working on automobiles. Any advice would be great!
There are two many cables. The positive which is Red and the negative which is Black. When removing and installing the cables, always disconnect the negative battery cable before performing repairs. This is also the last thing to be connected. This will prevent you from shorting out the electrical system.
The battery terminals are a side mount and the battery is a 78 series. The bolts are 5/16′. The negative cable runs down to the side of the engine and is attached with a 9/16′ or 14mm bolt. The positive cable runs down to the starter and is attached using a 15mm lock nut. This can sometimes be tricky to remove because the terminal stud on the starter solenoid can come loose while trying to loosen the lock nut. To prevent this from happening, hold the cable with your other hand while loosening the lock nut.
Hope this helps and good luck. Christopher
Where do you look for replacement interior parts for Chevy Blazer?
10.February, 2010
DH has a 92 Full size blazer. He loves it–but the drivers seat badly needs to be replaced. Where do I find one? I can try salvage yards, but will other chevy seats fit this? Thanks!
The cool thing about Chevrolet is most parts are interchangeable from year to year. I have a ’58 chevy pickup, a 91 chevy pickup, a 2001 Chevy pickup, and a 76 Blazer and the seatbolt patterns are all the same. There are several places that make reproduction parts for Chevy/GMC trucks all the way back to the 20′s here are a couple of places to look

I’m thinking about getting a 1954 Chevy truck that’s currently a manual and i’d like to convert it to an automatic can anyone give advise on the cost to do such a thing?
It’s a lot less costly then trying to change from an auto to a manual.
Depending on whether you already have the tranny or not, it’s cost will have to be considered. If the truck is a SBC, them there are several transmissions that will interchange. The t350, t400, 200metric which has overdrive, and a 2 spd power-glide.
The clutch pedal assembly will need to be removed and all the linkage.
The transmission, clutch, pressure plate, shifter, pilot bearing, and flywheel will also need to be removed.
You will need the trans., torque converter, flywheel, different front drive-shaft yoke, and possibly the starter and cross-member will need to be replaced.
It is easier to add a floor shifter for your auto then to try and change out the steering column and run new linkage.
Price wise, your looking at around 500 for labor and at least 1000 for parts. Depending on where you are located the labor could double and depending on whether you want brand new parts or used parts, the price could reach 1500.
This is a time consuming job, but not an impossible one.
Hope this helps. Christopher
I am extremely hard on an engine. I have blown a few of them before.
But I’m an idiot. I don’t know how to build engines.
In the future, I want to build a Chevy 305 or 350 that can take repeated, sustained abuse (like drag racing, etc).
What is the best way to build an engine and ensure that it will last?
I have heard of balancing and blueprinting. What else can be done?
start with good quality parts for one thing the next thing is to make sure all the parts are compatible with each other if you are not buying a kit. also have your rotating assembly balanced this is one of the major things of keeping any engine alive for long term abuse. next is cleanliness. if you do not keep all the parts clean as you put it together then it wont last long at all this is probably one of the best tips anyone can give you.

What are 1979 Chevy Silverado pickups going for these days?
04.January, 2010
I want to buy a ’79 Chevy shortbed pickup, but I need to know what deals are good. Does anyone know of any websites that will let me see what they should cost? KBB will only go 20 years back and I do not want to be in any club or have to pay for anything to find out. If you do not know of any sites, do you know what they are running for in your town or in your local papers (and if so, what town it is). Thanks for your help.
A truck that old wont have any value via "the books". They’ll estimate its book value and how many miles it’ll have on it. Price for one would be really low.
You’d have to find a person with one and see how much they’d sell it to you for. Because as I said going off book value you shouldnt pay more then 200 dollars for one. But if you go find one with 200 in your pocket and the person your buying it from has put some work into it. They could jack the price up.
I have a 78 malibu book value is about 100 dollars. But all the work I’ve put into it I could easily get 8,000 for it. Plus the milage is a big factor too.
I’ve seen a few in our local news paper (Little Rock, Ar Gazzette) but they’ve had work because one guy was asking for 3,500 for his. Another guy was only selling the motor out of his for 200. So you see where I’m going. Hope it helps.
I have a 1984 Chevy Blazer, and before I try to start using the 4 wheel drive, I want to know the method to put it in gear so I don’t mess up the transmission.Thanks.
For my 87, the truck must be neutral, and I have to have the brake pedal depressed, before it will allow me to shift the transfer case. Yours is probably the same. If you have automatic hubs, you are on your way. If not, don’t forget to get out and lock them (with the truck in Park).
Is it difficult to change the intake gasket on a 2001 chevy blazer?
15.December, 2009
I have a 2001 Chevy Blazer. Every time I pour coolant in there it comes right back out. A car shop told me that I needed to change the intake gasket which is a $60 kit, plus $240 with labor. I think that I can save a lot if I just did it myself. I’m going to give it a try. Is it very hard to do?
Let the pros do it. If you make the smallest mistake it may cost you an engine.
How do i replace a directional switch on a Chevy Blazer?
23.November, 2009
I have a 2000 Chevy Blazer, tilt wheel 4×4
No cruise control
4.3 liter
Airbag
The directional switch needs replaced, do i need a steering wheel puller?
Is it possible to replace this at home without having the airbag go off?
If anyone has any info on this please answer.
Thanks.
Do not attempt to do this repair yourself. The air bag must be removed from the steering column in order to do this repair. A very simple repair for a body shop, but a costly and potentially dangerous repair for the amateur. If you do not know what you are doing and cause the airbag to go off, you can kiss an easy $1500 goodbye.
