I have a 1999 Toyota 4Runner and I’m in the process of taking off the running boards.
I ran into an issue though.
I successfully removed the bolts from the back two brackets.
But the bracket on the front, I find it impossible to remove the two bolts.
The top run is far up and I can’t reach it with my wrench or rachet.
And the bottom is easily accessible, however it appears as if it is welded on the bracket because no matter what I do, it won’t come loose.

What can I do about it?

Its very possible that someone has welded it. If so you will need a cutting torch to remove it. They welded it because it was loose and the bolts would not tighten it.

My 01 Ford escape has black running boards that are beginning to rust, is there a special type of paint or spray I can buy to make it look better? Thanks.
The trailer hitch is also rusting, can that be painted or sprayed?
I just purchased this Escape today, so I have a lot of questions about it…I purchased the XLT, does that come standard with a FOB and security system? I went to the dealer today and he wasn’t sure if a FOB was supposed to be with the key, but if it’s not, I will buy one…but I just want to know if that is standard on this trim level. Also if a security system is standard on a XLT

There is a product out there now that is perfect for your situation. It’s called POR 15. You can spray, brush, or roll directly over rust. I’d do the entire running board with this stuff (you’d want to sand the unrusted portions before). POR15 comes in black, so you’d be set as far as color goes. This stuff is awesome, and I swear by it. You’ll never have to worry about it rusting again. Search for them on the web for more info.

Hello! We just bought a 2000 ford explorer sport for our daughter. It has 60,000 miles and is in great shape except for the running boards. There is rust on the running boards on both sides.

My question is, would it be possible to buy running boards on ebay and then have a mechanic install them? If so how much would we be looking to spend on the installation? I have priced some running boards on ebay at around 255 dollars.

you can get them cheaper then that. just go to the parts store and have them ordered.

there were three glue strips on the original installation which I removed both from the running board and the pad. also need to know how to prepare the surfaces.

I found a really nice used ford escape…and it has running boards on it and ii dont want them on it..are they removable? can i remove them myself?

They are bolted on.
Once removed the fittings will have to be plugged in.

It is a 2004 lexus gx 470. i need the driver’s side running board because the one at the dealership is waaaayyy to expensive. any ideas?
